Our Extraordinary Coordinators

COORDINATOR: SHANNON EMBERY
Our dedicated Coordinator Shannon’s love of the Maroochy North Shore community began over 20 years ago when her family moved to the area and Shannon was a student in the very first Grade 6 class for Pacific Paradise School. As a long term resident of the area and mother to 3 young boys, passionate about finding ways to better the community she loved, Shannon became involved in the Pacific Paradise Progress Association as their Vice President. Undertaking a Bachelor of Social Science majoring in Community Services has allowed Shannon to apply her skills into a number of community projects prior to the centre’s opening. Shannon then joined the steering committee for the North Shore Community Centre and was an integral part of the planning, design and vision for the new centre.
Shannon was elected as Coordinator by the committee to run the centre on their behalf and on behalf of the community in 2011. For the past 5 years, with the help of the management committee, community mentors and the community development officers of the Sunshine Coast Council, Shannon and her team of volunteers have tirelessly created, implemented and maintained all systems, procedures and policies for the smooth efficient running of the centre. Shannon currently manages over 40 regular classes and hirers, various activities, programs, projects, events, fundraisers and more that now form part of our vibrant and busy centre.

Our Volunteers
E-THRIFTER: HILARY MACLEOD
Hilary is famously named our “E-Thrifter” or IT officer and very generously gives of her time on a weekly basis to offer her valuable skills and years of experience in technology, social media and anything computers. As is often the nature of the not for profit sector, budgets can limit our ability to stand out online or ensure our office equipment is the latest and greatest. Hilary does not let this stand in her way, creating amazing websites on the smell of an oily rag and has an uncanny ability make 10-year-old technology function like 2017 technology. Google would be lucky to have her!

CAROLINE SYKES
“Caz” is a bubbly local Marcoola Resident with a passion for community and giving back in any way that she can. Caz very generously helps out on a weekly basis, watering plants, doing general cleaning, sorting out our toy library, tidying up the book exchange and generally making sure that our centre is in fantastic shape for our community.

TRAVIS SYKES
“Trav” is our local human dynamo, giving of his time on a weekly basis to help out with anything and everything! Amongst Travs many tasks is setting up tables and chairs for our groups and events, sorting out our storage cupboards and fixing anything broken. He is also skilled in computers, has assisted in our free computer classes and looks after our updates and general maintenance of the laptops within the centre.
